World Economic Forum names Franois Philippe Champagne a Young Global Leader of 2009

London, United Kingdom (26 February 2009) - AMEC plc, the international engineering and project management company, is proud to announce that François-Philippe Champagne, Strategic Development Director, has been selected as a Young Global Leader 2009 of the World Economic Forum (WEF). The Young Global Leader is a yearly honour bestowed to 200 to 300 young leaders under the age of forty who are committed to shaping the future of the world.

Drawn from a pool of almost 5,000 candidates from around the world, the Young Global Leaders nominated in 2009 were chosen by a selection committee of 31 renowned international media leaders and chaired by H.M. Queen Rania Al Abdullah of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

Newly awarded Young Global Leader recipient François Champagne was born in Quebec, Canada where he gained a Bachelor of Laws degree at Montreal University and was later called to the Quebec Bar in 1994. Currently based in the United Kingdom working with AMEC, he leverages his wealth of knowledge and experience in international corporate issues and cross-border transactions to help the company achieve its ambitions.

"I am honoured and delighted to have been named as a Young Global Leader and to be part of this unique and truly global community," said François. "I look forward to actively engaging with next-generation leaders of diverse backgrounds on global issues. The challenges in front of us are many and complex, but together we can shape a better future by looking at innovative ways to tackle the energy and environmental challenges of tomorrow."

The 2009 leaders will become part of the broader Forum of Young Global Leaders that currently represents over 100 countries. The honorees comprise business leaders, social entrepreneurs, and political, intellectual, societal and cultural leaders.

Established in 2004, the Forum of Young Global Leaders is a unique multi-stakeholder community of the world's most extraordinary young leaders, who dedicate a part of their time to jointly address global challenges and who are committed to devote some of their knowledge and energy to collectively work towards a better future. As part of their engagement, the Young Global Leaders give their time to taskforces to initiate, develop and drive innovative solutions on important, globally oriented issues, including health, education, the environment, global governance and security, and development and poverty.
