AMEC retains top position in oil services sector of Dow Jones Sustainability Index

London, United Kingdom (16 September 2010) - AMEC plc, the international engineering and project management company, has again been ranked the sector leader for sustainability in the oil equipment and services sector of the worldwide Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for 2010-11.

The assessment was based on corporate economic, environmental and social performance, taking into account issues such as corporate governance, risk management, climate change mitigation, corporate citizenship and philanthropy, supply chain standards and workforce practices. Only the top 10 per cent of the best performing organisations are included in the index. This is the seventh year in succession that AMEC has featured in the DJSI, which annually surveys and benchmarks the world's 2,500 largest companies.

"A strong commitment to sustainability is vital to a business that wants to be successful in the long term," said Keith Bradford, AMEC's Human Resources Director with management responsibility for sustainability. "It is important to balance economic, social and environmental issues in our decision-making processes across the entirety of our business. Doing this well is key to being a great company, helping ensure we identify and manage risk and opportunities and continue to invest in our people, communities, the environment and our industry to maintain the high standards we have set ourselves. So, we are pleased with our position in the DJSI but we must continue to strive for further improvements in all these areas."
