AMEC selected to provide runway construction project management services for airport expansion program

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (12 December 2011) - AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, has been awarded a Construction Project Management (CPM) contract as part of the Parsons Transportation Group Construction Project Management team selected by the Broward County Aviation Department. 

Under the contract, AMEC will provide CPM services for the Airport Expansion Program including elements related to the Runway 9R/27L Expansion.  These elements will include environmental management, coordination with regulatory agencies and monitoring of permitting, inspection services, quality assurance/quality control coordination, coordination and management of QA materials testing, inspection and verification of materials and equipment installed and project engineering.
 
The projects included within the CPM scope include:

  • Expansion of Runway 9R/27L including embankment, runway/taxiway pavements and Engineering Materials
  •  Arresting System (EMAS)
  • Runway/taxiway structures over US-1 Perimeter Road and Florida East Coast Railroad, NE 10th Street extension and NE 7th Avenue reconstruction
  • US-1 and airport exit roadway improvements
  • Water and sanitary force-main improvements
  • Landscape and irrigation improvements
  • Perimeter Road modifications
  • Various structure demolitions

"The team resources and commitment to Broward County's goals were paramount to the recent award," said Dana Pollitt, AMEC's Director of Business Development for South Florida. "This is a significant award for the team and is considered to be the largest project in Broward County history, estimated at nearly US$800 million in total construction cost."  The project is expected to begin in late 2011.
