AMEC dedicates water sustainability project at Henderson Mill Elementary

Tucker, GA (10 May 2012) "- AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, celebrated the completion of a water sustainability project at Henderson Mill Elementary during a special ceremony today at the school.  The project is a rain water collection system that the students and community will use to water an organic vegetable garden.  Volunteers from AMEC, and vendors in the construction industry, donated resources to plan, design, and construct the project.

"It's a dream come true for us," said Dr. Rebecca Jackson, principal of Henderson Mill Elementary. "The students have studied and practiced sustainability throughout the school year, and this is a great culmination of what they have learned."

During the summer months, the sustainable organic garden and watering system will be available to the surrounding community for planting and growing.

The project is one of many activities resulting from the partnership between AMEC and Henderson Mill formed in August 2011 to support the school's math, science, technology, and sustainability initiatives.  Throughout the school year, AMEC supported and participated in programs such as Engineering Week, Math Night, Science Night, and the Sustainability project.

"The partnership has been an enjoyable experience and very successful," said Donya Edler, Director of Marketing and Communications for AMEC's Power & Process Americas business.  "We hope that our volunteer work has positively influenced the students and sparked their interest in math, science and sustainability, hopefully even influencing them to become our engineers of the future."

Overall, AMEC employs more than 950 employees in the Atlanta metropolitan area.
