London, United Kingdom (25 July 2013) "- Samir Brikho, Chief Executive of AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.

The Academy honours the United Kingdom's most distinguished engineers. It draws on the enormous wealth of engineering knowledge they possess and, through the interdisciplinary character of its membership, provides a unique breadth of engineering experience to further the art and practice of engineering in all its forms.

Election to the Academy is by invitation only. Up to 60 Fellows are elected each year from nominations made by existing Fellows. They are distinguished by the title 'Fellow of The Royal Academy of Engineering' and the designation 'FREng'. Honorary Fellows and Foreign Members who have made exceptional contributions to engineering are also elected.

Mr Brikho said: "I am honoured to have been accepted as a Fellow of the Academy, one of the most respected national academies in the world, and hope I can act as an inspiration to the many thousands of AMEC engineers, the industry and beyond.

"Engineering plays such a vital part in people's lives that I am determined to help deliver the Academy's aims by highlighting not only engineering's significance but also the exciting and rewarding career opportunities it can provide."
