AMEC strengthens Europe waste consultancy team

London, United Kingdom (24 October 2013) - AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, has strengthened its European waste consultancy team with the appointment of Geoff Price and David Chance as technical directors in its Environment & Infrastructure business, Europe.

Both join from the waste and renewable energy business Covanta Energy and are key hires to help grow AMEC's waste infrastructure engineering capability.

Mr Price began his 35-year career as a mechanical engineer in power generation, oil and gas, and petrochemicals, and latterly energy-from-waste and sludge treatment. His most recent role was as projects engineering director for Covanta's energy-from-waste activities. Mr Chance is a chemical engineer with more than 30 years' experience in R&D, waste incineration and related industries. Prior to joining AMEC he was engineering project manager for Covanta's Ince energy-from-waste facility.

Both recruits are applying their expertise to AMEC's consultancy appointment at Viridor's energy-from-waste plant in Exeter, which will produce enough electricity to supply around 5,000 homes by treating up to 60,000 tonnes of residual, non-recyclable waste from local households. AMEC is Viridor's engineer on the project and is providing specialist expertise for process interface engineering and health & safety supervision.

"I am delighted to welcome David and Geoff to the business," said Rob Brown, Managing Director of AMEC's Environment & Infrastructure business in Europe. "They have a proven track record in waste infrastructure projects and significantly strengthen our offering in energy from waste, a sector that offers a substantial opportunity for growth. We have ambitions to grow our waste business and look forward to making further appointments in the near future."
