AMEC takes oil and gas top spot in annual Environmental Tracking awards

30/04/2013

London, United Kingdom (1 May 2013) - AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, has been awarded the Sector Leader Award for the 2013 ET (Environmental Tracking) Global Carbon Rankings, which rank the world's largest companies according to greenhouse gas emissions and disclosure.

AMEC was ranked first in the Oil & Gas sector in terms of low emissions intensity and disclosure compared to other sector competitors. Overall, AMEC ranked 20th in the 2013 ET UK 100 and 77th in the ET Europe 300 Carbon Ranking.

The Rankings are published by the Environmental Investment Organisation (EIO), an independent not-for-profit research organisation promoting carbon transparency and investment solutions designed to address climate change.

They are compiled from publicly available emissions data taken from company sustainability reports, annual reports and websites. The Rankings and the fully transparent methodology behind them can be viewed online at eio.org.uk.

"We have made significant efforts to reduce AMEC's greenhouse gas emissions and, importantly, to be transparent by capturing and reporting our emissions data from across 40 countries," said Frances Fay, AMEC's Head of Sustainability. "Naturally, we are delighted that those efforts have been recognised with this ET sector award but we will not be complacent and will continue to drive forward our sustainability programme."

EIO Chief Executive Sam Gill added: "I am delighted to be able to present the 2013 ET Sector Leader Award to AMEC on behalf of the Environmental Investment Organisation. Whilst effective greenhouse gas emissions reporting is certainly not an easy task for any company, it is excellent to see certain companies demonstrating that it can be done and to an ever increasingly higher standard."
