AMEC to create 300 skilled jobs in Clean Energy business based in north west England

London, United Kingdom, (28 October 2013) "- AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, is to create more than 300 highly-skilled jobs in its Clean Energy Europe business, which is based in the north west of England.

The drive, which will focus on the company's nuclear business, aims to bring in a wide range of disciplines, including safety consultants, project managers and mechanical and electrical engineers.

The news was welcome by the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, The Rt Hon George Osborne MP, in whose Tatton, Cheshire, constituency AMEC's Clean Energy Europe business is headquartered.

"The creation of over 300 new jobs by AMEC's Clean Energy Europe Business is great news, offering exciting new opportunities to engineers, graduates and apprentices. These are exactly the kind of highly skilled jobs we need in this country", said Mr Osborne.

"The government has just announced the go ahead for a new nuclear power station in the UK and I hope this will create more opportunities for companies like AMEC to expand and grow. "

And Clive White, President of AMEC's Clean Energy Europe business, said: "This reflects the growth of our nuclear business, not only in the UK but across the wider Europe.

"We have already created around 250 jobs across the business so far this year and are planning to increase those numbers by a further 300 in the months to come.

"AMEC is the leading nuclear services company in the UK, serving both the UK and international market. Our ambition is to retain and extend this leading position in the UK and continue to grow to become the leading nuclear services business across Europe.

"Our business has expanded significantly in recent years and if we are to continue to give our customers the world-class service they have come to expect from us, then we need to significantly add to our already exceptional range of skilled people.

"These highly skilled positions will focus across the whole spectrum of our business "- from new build programmes and reactor operations support, through to our waste management and decommissioning activities in the UK and Europe and also our business within the defence sector. They will be based across our UK and European operations but will have a strong focus at our head office in Knutsford and our state-of-the-art laboratories at Birchwood near Warrington, which are the largest commercial nuclear laboratories in the UK.

"And as a key priority, we are also increasing our young talent programmes to grow the skills for the long term benefit of the industry. We are expanding our graduate and apprenticeship training programmes in the North-West and are introducing re-training schemes to develop available talent from other business sectors. Growing the skills for the future has become part of our daily business."

Clive said that AMEC will be targeting key recruitment events but also added that the company's recruitment site on should be the first port of call for those interested in joining one of the UK's leading nuclear companies.
